Why is Donald Trump waging a war against the United States Postal Service?

Without evidence, Donald Trump has falsely claimed that mail-in voting would lead to massive voter fraud in the November election. During a pandemic where voting in person could be dangerous, the president is opposing funding that will enable the U.S. Postal Service to process an anticipated surge in mail-in ballots.

We definitely know that the president is absolutely wrong concerning vote-by-mail.

The agency’s new leader, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, is a major donor to Trump and other Republicans. Dejoy is the first postmaster general in nearly two decades who is not a career postal employee. He’s instituted operational changes that have led to¬†delivery delays across the U.S., including cutting overtime, instituting a hiring freeze on managers, and replaced 23 executives. But the most controversial actions concerning the USPS and the 2020 elections have been the removal of mailboxes and mail sorting machines from facilities around the country.
