TONY CARDENAS EARNS ENDORSEMENT OF PROMINENT CALIFORNIA LATINO LEADERS
Cardoza, Bustamante, Torres, Polanco Support Consensus-Builder
Cardenas for Congress
(Los Angeles) – Four prominent California officials today joined a growing list of Latino leaders who have endorsed Councilman Tony Cardenas’ campaign for Congress in the new predominately Latino Northeast San Fernando Valley seat.
Joining Cardenas’ list of endorsers today are:
• Dennis Cardoza, Congressmember and member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus
• Cruz Bustamante, former Lt. Governor and Speaker Emeritus
• Art Torres, former California Democratic Party Chairman
• Richard Polanco, former State Senator and chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus
“More than ever, our middle-class families are looking for problem-solvers who will get past the bickering so we can move our economy forward,” Cardenas said. “I am humbled by the support of so many in the community and that of Latino leaders, including Lt. Gov. Bustamante, Sen. Torres and Rep. Cardoza recognize that my experience cutting red tape, building consensus, and delivering balanced budgets is exactly what we need right now.”
The open Northeast San Fernando Valley (29th) Congressional District tentatively approved by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission is composed of 56% Democrats, 17% Republicans and represents approximately 69% Latinos.
No current Member of Congress resides in this new district.
Cardenas, a Democrat, opened a congressional committee in July. Following final approval of the district boundaries by the Redistricting Commission on August 15, Cardenas expects to run, and win.
